Workshop Implementation

The Living Well with a Disability Program is a ten week workshop of approximately 20 session hours. It is best to have two facilitators per workshop. Laypersons, peers or professionals may become trained group facilitators (See Facilitator Training). Workshop costs include Living Well workbooks for each participant, room rental, facilitator training, facilitator wages, and participant recruitment.

The ideal group size for a Living Well workshop is eight to ten participants. Larger groups reduce the opportunity for each participant to share progress or problems. Many people also feel intimidated in larger groups. Groups of fewer than five participants lack group cohesiveness and adequate peer support. The workbooks include worksheets and exercises that allow participants to apply the techniques taught in class to concrete examples from their own lives. Participants build a community as they share their experiences in group discussions and updates.
